Workshop 1 - Hammerfest

Workshop 1: Hammerfest

Cold FLTF teachers at the Meridian Monument

The end of January far above the Arctic Circle is a tough time, also for the natives, who are used to darkness, snow and extremely low temperatures. Therefore, we think that our partners were really brave when they agreed to come to Hammerfest at exactly this time. The first workshop in Hammerfest became a bit more exciting than we had planned, with an (even for Northern Norwegian conditions) extreme weather, which made for some interesting travel plans and some very cold sightseeing experiences!

Inside school, however, it was warm, so we were able to get started on our project. At first, we had a joint session, where our guests learned more about school, tradition, culture and everyday life in Hammerfest. We also had a session where we talked about the project and what we see as innovative and motivating teaching methods. After that, we divided into groups of English teachers and German teachers and worked on actual lesson plans. We were also able to try out parts of the lesson plans with students at Hammerfest videregående skole.

The next phase of the project will be the teacher mobilities, where teachers from the participating schools will visit one of the partner schools and teach together, among other things in order to develop the lesson plans further and to learn from each other. This is something that we are really looking forward to!
